Horror Lasagna

the best horror movies you've never seen

Black Christmas

There are 3 versions of this movie. The original is considered a classic, and helped set the stage for Christmas slasher horror movies. I’ll talk a bit about each version.

1974 – This is the original and considered a classic. Christmas Eve at a sorority and a crazed psycho comes to kill them. In the context of one of the earliest slashers, I can see it as a good movie. And out of the 3 of them, I’d recommend this one first.

2006 – This is kind of a reboot of the original, but it also tries to add more background and story to our killer. Not sure they pull it off. It doesn’t enhance the story from the original, but I give them credit for trying to improve on the original. It’s not horrible. They try to not make the sorority sisters look like weaklings, I just don’t think they gave the strongest story to accomplish it.

2019 – A total redo. My least favorite out of the 3. More focused on girl power – which is fine, but changes the premise of the original entirely. Turns into more of an action movie.

Watch the original so you can check it off your bucket list. If you want the comparison, watch the 2006 version. You can skip the 2019 one, unless the cult aspects and girl power ending are your jam.
